Who Spends the Most Time Gaming? Brazil, the Philippines, and Turkey Lead with 10+ Hours a Week - 30% Above the Global Average

In 2025, internet users worldwide spent an average of six hours and 58 minutes per week playing video games, trailing only online videos, TV, and social media among all media and devices. With the average person sleeping seven to eight hours per night, that means many people spend nearly as much time gaming as they do asleep. Still, some countries were far above this figure.
According to data presented by Skinsluck.com, Brazilians, Filipinos, and Turks spend the most time playing video games weekly, more than ten hours, or 30% above the global average. Here is how other nations rank on this list.
Biggest Gaming Nations Lag Far Behind in Time Spent Playing
While the global average of nearly seven hours per week spent gaming is quite a lot, the latest StatCounter Digital 2025 Global Statshot Report shows most countries are far above this figure. Out of 54 countries included in the survey, 30 spent more than seven hours gaming per week, while 24 spent less than the average. Still, even within that first group of gaming fanatics, there are significant differences, with some nations outpacing the global average by a wide margin. Brazil, the Philippines, and Turkey lead this group.
Statistics show the three countries top the global charts in weekly gaming, with players in each country averaging more than 10 hours of playtime, roughly 30% above the world norm. Mexico, Chile, and the United States were the next closest on the list, averaging between 9 and 9.5 hours. Malaysia, Thailand, South Africa, and Argentina round out the top ten group, with just below nine hours of weekly playtime.
In contrast, the world's biggest gaming powerhouses by revenue, excluding the United States, such as Germany, the UK, Japan, China, and South Korea, all fall below the global average. For example, Germans spend six hours and 42 minutes gaming weekly, Britons roughly half an hour less, while Chinese and South Koreans are closer to five hours. Japan, the world's third-largest gaming market by revenue, was at the back of the list, with only three hours and 57 minutes spent on gaming each week.
Several factors explain this trend. To start, in countries like Brazil and the Philippines, younger populations and affordable options, such as mobile games and internet cafés, have turned gaming into a daily habit for many. On the other hand, in wealthier markets like the U.S., Japan, or China, players spend more on premium games and hardware but usually have less free time to play, with busy lifestyles, work culture, and alternative entertainment options all reducing average weekly playtime. As a result, nations driving the most industry revenue are not the ones that spend the most time in front of the screen.
Smartphones Dominate Gaming Devices, Shooter Games Remain the Top Pick
The StatCounter survey also revealed some interesting facts about gaming fanatics' habits, including the devices they prefer and which genres are their top picks. Statistics show nearly 70% of them play video games on smartphones, the most affordable option, of course. One-third of respondents said they game on laptops and desktop PC, while only 23% prefer gaming consoles.
When talking about video game genres, shooter games remain the top pick with a high 51.5% share among respondents. Action adventure, sports, and MOBA games follow, with 48%, 35% and 33% shares, respectively.
